University of Michigan Football, Captain 2005, All American; NFL Football, #1 Draft for the Miami Dolphins, All Pro December 7th, 2022 Jake Long was recently inducted in to the Greater Flint Sports Hall of Fame. But his athletic career was filled with accolades from the beginning. A three sport star at Lapeer East he dominated on the basketball court, diamond, and grid iron. He was a two-time first-team All-Metro League player in both basketball and football, where he was honored both on offense and defense. In baseball, he was a two-time second-team All-Metro League selection. In both basketball and football, he led his team to regular and post season success that had not been seen in many years.
From there he went on to play football for the University of Michigan. As an All Big Ten and a two time All American he paved the way for the Wolverines as one of the greatest offensive lineman in Michigan’s storied history. He was a finalist for the Lombardi and Outland Awards. Following his epic career in maize and blue, he was the Number One pick in the NFL draft, chosen by the Miami Dolphins. He started every single game his rookie season and was selected to numerous All-Rookie teams and was a substitute Pro Bowl selection. Long followed up on a successful rookie season by earning Pro Bowl roster spots in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Easily one of Greater Flint’s greatest athletes, and a heckuva nice guy too! Jake joins Fish in the Aquarium to talk about it all, including his thoughts on the University of Michigan’s terrific 2022 football season. |
