ShowsJack's Record Stache
Jerry Crago and Brandon Trammell Entrepreneurs, Vinyl Records December 18, 2019 If you grew up in Flint, and you're in to music, you have a lexicon of favorite record stores:
And that’s just a partial list of my personal favorites leaving a LOT of great places out! Technology keeps evolving. Records morphed in to CD’s, killing off the old single 45's that were a staple of my collection, and my collegiate DJ career. Then, just shy of two decades later, this little white thing, about the size of a pack of cigs, showed up. It was the greatest thing I'd ever seen. THE IPOD! Who knew how much it would change not just how we consume music, but how it’s created and monetized? From the top, down to the artist level, it was a dramatic shift. The death of the 'record' store was inevitable. A sad day for all of us old school music mavens, to be sure. But now...in downtown Flint....the record store has risen like the Phoenix from the ashes of the creative destruction of the music business. Two business partners, Brandon Trammell and Jerry Crago, have teamed up with a silent partner to form Jack's Record Stache, located at 124 W. First Street, in downtown Flint! When I saw this store was opening, I was all like “I HAVE TO HAVE THEM ON THE SHOW!” These young fellas have Old Record Store Dude blood coursing through their vibrant veins. They bring with them that peculiar elation created by an eclectic playlist, and the nirvana of flipping through the record stack. I loved this conversation, because its lovely, circuitous path demonstrated that music is the great and grand uniter. Best of all, it's ALIVE and WELL, in downtown Flint. Check out my conversation with the Jack’s Record Stache boys, Brandon and Jerry. You'll agree that it's 1980 again (and if you weren't alive in 1980 trust me...it was FREAKING AWESOME)! |
