ShowsEmily Doerr
Entreprenuer, Economic Development Advisor Flint City Bike Tours December 6, 2019 When I mentioned Emily Doerr's name to a mutual acquaintance, they described her as a 'force of nature'. Not only is that a mighty high compliment, it's darn accurate!
Saying that she is 'active in the community' would be an understatement. She not only worked in Flint city government for a while, she knows all of the players, and is tuned in to what really works and what needs to be done. Her diversity of experience has certainly served her well, as she goes about the business of making everything she touches better. A Flintstone by birth, she grew up in Goodrich, and now lives in the East Court Street area in the city. Currently working in a role that helps small businesses get off the ground stems, in part, from her own personal experiences in that city government role, when she saw the red tape that people had to endure just to get their dreams off the ground. It also comes from her experience setting up a super successful Hostel Detroit in 2011. Helping people navigate the twin devils of finance and red tape are one of the most elemental components of a business start up for many. Emily is the ‘Dora The Explorer’ of Flint. She knows the trails to follow, which machetes to use to hack through the jungle, and the smartest paths to blaze through. None of this is really a surprise for someone who also worked for the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, along the way. Her current role is as the vice president of Metro Community Development, which remains aligned with her consistent community development and promotion career path. This skillset served her well, when she set up a new business Flint City Bike Tours. There are a variety of tours you can choose from, including: Flint's rich automotive history, the incredible mural project, new developments, parks, trails new developments and the pub scene. Our only suggestion for her is if you're doing a pub crawl on bikes make sure everyone has a good HELMET! Emily Doerr is without a doubt, one of the real gems of the city, and a favorite of us here at "Fish and The Flint Chronicles". |
