When Dana Roberson was strolling the halls of Flint Central she couldn’t have imagined that in the future she’d be touring war torn areas of the world with CBS News Anchor Dan Rather, but there she was.
A Flint Central graduate, Dana followed her journalistic dreams to Iowa University where she received a Journalism degree, and form there she moved on to New York City and Columbia University for her Masters at the School of Journalism.
From there she embarked on an incredible career as a producer working with some of the most well-known figures in media, and covering some of the biggest stories in the world. That’s what led her to working with Rather, and traveling to dangerous hot spots to get the story as part of the investigative team at AXS-TV.
Dana is an Adjunct Professor at the Columbia School of Journalism, returning to her educational roots, and is also the Executive Producer of the WNET PBS News Hour Weekend. Before this her career stops in addition to her work with Rather, included the long running “60 Minutes”, and the acclaimed “Sunday Morning” show with legendary Charles Kuralt, and the daily national news program “The Takeaway”.
One of the highlights of her career so far was winning the Peabody Award for her breaking the story of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal during the Iraq War. But her investigative work has taken her around the globe, including to the war in Afghanistan, Opioid pill mills in Texas, Albert Einstein’s pile at the Smithsonian, and the Dali Lama in India.
Dana’s journey has completed the circuit with her appearance on “Fish and the Flint Chronicles”, back in her hometown of Flint where it all began. As Fish and Dana confess, if you grow up in Flint, it prepares you for anything life has to offer.
In Dana’s case she certainly has made the most of it, exporting Flintstonian courage, communication and conversation across the wide spectrum of human endeavors--and we couldn’t be more proud to add her to the pantheon of Flint Chronicles terrific guests!
