ShowsMichael Secrest - World Champion Endurance Athlete/Cycling
April 26, 2023 There are athletes with great endurance. It takes a lot of energy to play football, or hockey or basketball among other sports. Hockey is so taxing they skate in shifts. Then you have marathon runners- 26 miles! That’s amazing stamina. Then there are the triathletes. Running, swimming, cycling, non stop against themselves, the clock and the competition. Now THAT takes some endurance.
Then there is Mike Secrest. The level of stamina he plays at is beyond compare. This is the guy who once rode a bike from Washington D.C. to San Francisco in just 9 days (sleeping for about 12 hours along the way). That’s 3,117 miles folks! Secrest set three world records while becoming an international champion. He won the 1987 Race Across America after having placed second in the event twice and third once. Set a world record in the Motor Pace race by covering 1,216.81 miles in 24 hours in 1990 and also set world marks in a seven-day cross country race in 1986 and in an indoor race in 1985 at the Velodrome in Montreal. This Flint Central graduate is one of the greatest athletes to hail from The Vehicle City, and his story is one of courage, resilience, and most of all STAMINA to see the race through to the end. He’s taking laps here in the Aquarium to tell Fish, and all of our listeners all about it! |
