who is Fish?Gary L. "Fish" Fisher comes to his passion for all things Flint, honestly. His family has been a part of the Flint area for over 110 years, so his roots run deep. In fact, they were in Flint when General Motors got its start; his great-grandfather, grandfathers, grandmother, and dad (along with numerous cousins, uncles, and aunts) all worked for GM, most of them at "The Buick".
His fascination with the history of the city has existed as long as he can remember, and he's had the opportunity to meet, know, and engage with many of the key players who have shaped the last half century of the area's history. More than that, he's a dedicated historian, thoroughly devoted to exploring and revealing the true story of his hometown. When it comes to amazing stories, the city is a deep mine of diamonds! In addition, to being a successful business owner, financial advisor, and speaker, he's also a teacher devoted to education. He is an adjunct professor of financial planning at Olivet College, and has coached and trained business owners and executives for many of the nation's top companies. He also serves as the President on the board of the Genesee County Historical Society, where he delivers seminars and talks on the rich history of the amazing cast of characters and events Flint has produced. Gary graduated from Flint Central High School, has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, and a Masters of Science in Business Administration from Central Michigan University. Finally, he's a master storyteller, and has a knack for finding the connective tissue between what happened 'then' and what's happening 'now'. Plus, some people say he's pretty funny.! Regarding the show Gary says, "It's an honor and a big responsibility to tell these stories. I want to tell them accurately, and in an entertaining and engaging way. That's really my goal with this show." He's currently penning his first book on Flint history called "Boys Under The Hood". |
