Sheriff Chris Swanson
Genesee County, Michigan

September 2, 2020
In a story that made headlines world wide, Swanson met protesters on Miller Road in Flint Township and helped head off a potentially volatile situation by leading his officers to lay down their clubs and helmets and join the protesters in a peaceful march. His words "Let's walk" became a rallying cry for a community. He's returned to talk about the ongoing protests across the country, and what has made Flint special and different, as well as shedding light on the rising horrific problem of human trafficking.

Also, Rick is back to talk about more cultural touchstones. Today it’s the ‘Defund The Police’ movement in America. Rick has a truly unique perspective on the topic. As loyal listeners of the show may know, Rick is a regular. A long time Flint Police officer, labor leader, and now defense attorney, Rick has been on the streets and experienced the risks of dealing with crime first hand. Now he defends those accused of crimes. Few can say they’ve had this 360 view of the topic. So we thought he’d be an amazing guest to talk about a topic that has has ramifications that will impact Flint, Detroit, and indeed much of America. It’s a deep dive in the Aquarium today.
