Kevin Hubbs - Grand Blanc HS Baseball Coach
David Lally - Grand Blanc HS Pitcher

May 11, 2022
Ranked # 2 in Michigan, #47 in all of American High School Baseball, defending Michigan State Champions, 2022 Saginaw Valley Champions, with 7 soon to be college scholarship athletes, and a Major League prospect with a near 100 mph fastball on the mound.

That’s Grand Blanc Baseball.

When Grand Blanc won the Class A, Michigan State Championship in baseball last year, it wasn’t just a minor achievement.

Flint High/ Flint Central and Flint Northern had won several mythical state titles back in the first half of the 20th century. But despite the area churning out scores of college, minor league and Major League Baseball talent, it was still  a rare occurrence for a Genesee County school to bring home the bacon on the state level.

Flint Southwestern pulled it off in 1978, Flint Powers won the state baseball crown in Class B in 1974 and again in 1980. Burton Bentley did it in Class B in 1973 and 1975. Making it to the finals and losing was Lake Fenton in 1983, Fenton in 1989, Carman in 1981, and Davison in 1990.  The 1975 Flint Central team fell in the Class A state semi final.

In 2021, Grand Blanc broke that hex by winning the Michigan State Championship in the big school division in stunning fashion. The coach of the Bobcat title team, Kevin Hubbs, himself a longtime Genesee County baseball player and coach from Mt. Morris, led the squad to the promised land.

He did it with a lot of help from a tight knit group of players like Nathan Fidelino, Nate Helms, Hunter Ames and one of the Flint area’s most sought after prospects ever. Senior and Notre Dame commit, 6’4” David Lally, had helped Grand Blanc deliver the goods with his 98 mph fastball. There are sevencollege signees so far from this incredible ball club.

As noted, Hubbs has Grand Blanc ranked #2 in the state in Class A,  # 5 in the Midwest, (one of only four Michigan teams in the top 25), and perhaps most incredible of all is that they are in the top 50 nationally at #47.

Grand Blanc is on track to make another strong run to the title, winning the Saginaw Valley Conference Title on May 20th, and is geared up to prove to everyone why Grand Blanc is the new epicenter of baseball excellence in Michigan.

Fish is joined by Coach Hubbs and star pitcher Lally in the Aquarium for a show that covers the title, the rankings, the team, and what the future holds for the Red and Black Bobcat Baseball Machine.
