The revitalization of Flint has many parents, but few have proven more crucial to the progress than Dr. Bobby Mukkumala. After starting his medical practice 19 years ago, he made a decision to contribute far beyond that. His efforts have been rewarded with seismic change in Downtown Flint. After starting the 501 Restaurant and seeing it through to a flourishing success story, he duplicated that effort with a host of additional businesses including Table and Tap, Good Boy Apparel, and Tenacity Brewing. Putting together a winning financial and marketing package is a lot like a winning baseball strategy, and to that end, Dr. Mukkumala says his goal is to hit lots of singles instead of swinging for the fences—and his strategy has been a winner. He also promotes a big ’80’s celebration at Chevy Commons, which he says will ultimately morph into our very own New York-style Central Park. This includes a Flint River kayak experience. That is beyond incredible. He also has played a critical function in lobbying for the revitalization of places of historical and economic significance, such as The Capitol Theater.
Dr. Mukkumala is a great friend of Fish and the Flint Chronicles and the City of Flint. He’s one of many entrepreneurial visionaries who are channeling the spirit of Billy Durant, CS Mott, and J. Dallas Dort, who all embodied the ideals of growth, prosperity, and reinvention.
